incredulous - indicating or showing unbelief



vaguely - not clearly or explicitly stated or expressed



nonchalantly - cool, calm, collected, composed.



A man named bill was walking down the street with his friend to the ice cream shop. Bill and his friend lulu got their ice cream and sat down to eat. They were about half way through eating when a lady came along and said this is my table. Lulu and Bill gave the lady a incredulous look and told her that no it wasn't and she can find another table. The lady sat down and thought very vaguely with a very upset off face. After lulu and bill were done their ice cream they went over to the lady in a nonchalantly way and told the lady sorry and she could have her table back, and the lady was happy again.



1. Who is the fuzz?

Fuzz is a slang word for the police, used by the greasers.


2. Are the names Ponyboy and Sodapop nicknames? Explain.

No, Ponyboy and Sodapop are not nicknames they are their actual names on their birth certificates. Their father was just a really creative man.

3. Who are Cherry and Marcia?

Cherry and Marcia are two Socs girls that the greasers met at the movies.

4. Why doesn't Ponyboy like referring to Sodapop as a dropout?

Ponyboy doesn't like referring to Sodapop as a dropout because, he thinks dropouts are stupid people, and he does think sodapop is, and it'll give sodapop a bad reputation.

5. What is Ponyboy comparing Two-Bit to when he calls him a "cheesy cat" on page 27? What figure of speech is this besides a simile?

When Ponyboy calls Two-bit a "cheesy cat" hes comparing to a Cheshire cat, because that type of cat is always smiling, and Two- bit has a huge grin on his face after he scared Ponyboy and johnny.

6. What is "a weed" slang for in 1967?

Weed was a slang word for a cigarette in 1967.

7. Why does Dally look sick now (p. 33)?

Dally looked sick now because seeing his friend beet up and scraped , it reminded him of the people he saw killed on the west side of new york.

8. What literary device does the author use to describe Johnny's mugging (pages. 31-34)?

A literary device that the author used to describe Johnny's mugging was when she said that "it was killing Johnny" which was a figure of speech. Johnny wasn't latterly dieing he just felt badly hurt and not good.
