chapter four

VOCABULARY

ruefully- causing sorrow or pity

hermit- a person who has withdrawn from society and lives a solitary existence; a recluse

premonition- a feeling of anticipation of or anxiety over a future event; presentiment

This week bill and lulu decided to go on a little trip to the beach, but it made them ruefully. It made them ruefully because they heard that their friends were gonna be hermits. They didn't know what to do, they were so upset for half the week. Until Bob as smart as he is remembered that they had an extra room in their house and space for them to stay. Lulu called their friends and they took their offer right away. All them felt so premonition over the idea, and the end of their vacation was great.

1. What does Pony mean when he says the socs were "reeling pickled" on page 54?

Ponyboy meant when he said the socs were "reeling pickled" that they were really angry and upset with him and Johnny.

2. What major event happens in this chapter?

The two major events that happened in this chapter were..

1. The socs came after to beet up and try and kill ponyboy, and johnny saves ponyboy from being drown by one of the socs by killing Bill, one of the socs.

2. Pony and Johnny knew that Johnny was going to get caught by the police and put onto the electric chair, so they got a gun and money from dally and hopped on a train and ran away to Windrixville, 45 minutes away to live in an abandon church.

3. How did the author foreshadow that Johnny would use his knife in Chapter 2?

The author foreshadow that Johnny would use his knife in chapter two by saying "He now carries in his back pocket six-inch switchblade. He'd use it too, if he ever got jumped again."

4. What would your advice be to Johnny and Ponyboy if they'd come to you for help instead of Dally? Explain.

I would probably of done the same as Dally, because i would know that if i didn't johnny would just be killed by the police and it was the best thing for them, at least for the moment.
