chapter nine

1. On the bottom of p.133, when Pony asks what kind of a world it is, what comment is he making about how society judges people?

When Pony asks what kind of a world it is when he says that all he has to be proud of is his reputation and fact that he is a hood, He is making a comment on how there isn't much to be proud of if your a greaser where on the other hand Socs have is all.

2. Why do the boys fight? Why is Pony different?

The boys fight for different reasons, like just cause they enjoy it,to show off their muscles, to burn of steam, and just cause it feels good. Pony is different cause he doesn't like to fight, he thinks it is pointless, and people just always end up hurt anyways.

3. What is the difference between Tim Sheppard's gang and Ponyboy's? Explain how Pony feels this difference might give his group the upper hand?

The difference between Tim Sheppard's gang and Ponyboys gang is that Tim's gang has a leader and things were all organized but the Greasers were just buddies who stuck together and each man was his own leader. Pony feels that this gives the Greasers the upper hand because since they all are good friends they are always looking out for each other, but at the same time they don't need to follow leadership so they may work harder because they are using their own ideas.

4. What do you think Johnny's last words to Pony mean?

I think when johnny said to ponyboy "stay gold" it meant, don't change, your a great person, and to always try and do the best he can. Also that Johnny really cared about Pony.
